Prevention Benefits of HIV Treatment: CDC Issue Brief

Prevention Benefits of HIV Treatment: CDC Issue Brief

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

This CDC Issue Brief summarizes evidence supporting the efficacy of HIV treatment as a prevention strategy and discusses work. In addition, the brief discussed challenges related to implementation of this strategy and what CDC is doing in this area, including work with HRSA/HAB on promising opportunities to improve retention in care (e.g., collaborating among service providers to identify persons poorly retained in care, outreach programs, addressing unmet psychosocial needs).

See also the TARGET Center's Prevention topic page, which includes resources like Options, a project highlighted in the CDC report that outlines steps for HIV clinics to integrate HIV prevention into care, based upon a model tested from 1999 forward under NIH, New York State, and HRSA/SPNS funding.
