As it was in the earliest days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, gay and bisexual men (men who have sex with men, MSM) comprise the majority of HIV/AIDS cases in the U.S., representing over half of those infected with HIV/AIDS. MSM represent about 40% of clients served by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.

About two-thirds of new HIV infections in the U.S. each year are among MSM. The impact is heaviest on African American MSM. Get the latest facts on HIV/AIDS and MSM (August 2015).

National Gay Men's HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is September 27. Awareness day activities focus on testing and prevention, engagement in care for those who are infected, and battling stigma and homophobia.

Black MSM Retention in Care Initiative

In 2014, HRSA/HAB launched an HIV prevention and care resource/technical assistance center for HIV care providers focused on strengthening engagement and retention in HIV clinical care among young and adult Black gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM).

Learn more about Center for Engaging Black MSM Across the Care Continuum (CEBACC), a HRSA cooperative agreement with NASTAD, the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors.
