Three sites in the Special Projects of National Significance Black Men Who Have Sex with Men (BMSM) Initiative have developed and implemented innovative technology innovations to engage BMSM in care. These include apps, telemedicine, social media, and texting services that meet clients where they are and provide access to services. Access to telemedicine visits in a multidisciplinary urban HIV clinic allows for improved access to care for patients who have fallen out of care or those who have difficulty attending their appointments due to stigma, multiple comorbidities, or barriers related to work, transportation, or childcare.

Tailored Motivational Interviewing: E2i
Tailored Motivational Interviewing (TMI) delivers brief motivational interviewing counseling sessions customized to encourage people with HIV to engage in HIV care, take HIV medications as prescribed, and improve other health-related behaviors. Three sites implemented TMI as part of E2i, an initiative funded by the RWHAP Part F SPNS program from 2017 to 2021. Clients who participated in TMI had significant improvement in engagement in care, prescription of antiretroviral therapy, retention in care, and viral suppression.Resource from the RWHAP Best Practices Compilation updated on 01/07/2024
